This mosaic image from the Hubble and Spitzer telescopes and the Chandra Observatory is the sharpest wide-angle view ever obtained of of the magnificent starburst galaxy, Messier 82 (M82). The galaxy is remarkable for its bright blue disk, webs of shredded clouds, and fiery-looking plumes of glowing hydrogen blasting out of its central regions.

Professor's Private Email Angers Muslims
Members of a Muslim student group want MSU officials to publicly speak out against an engineering professor who sent an "offensive" e-mail message to the organization in February.
Indrek Wichman, a mechanical engineering professor, told the Muslim Students' Association that "If you do not like the values of the West … you are free to leave. I hope for God's sake that most of you choose that option," in a Feb. 28 e-mail sent from his university account.
The e-mail also read, "I counsul you dissatisfied, agressive, brutal, and uncivilized slave-trading Moslems to be very aware of this as you proceed with your infantile 'protests.'"
Is he referring to the 50,000 slaves in Darfur? Enslaved by the Arab Islamic government? Slavery , human bondage and trafficking by the Islamic extremists must end. I quite agree.
The same day, members of the association protested against the publication of Danish cartoons that depicted the Prophet Muhammad, calling them inappropriate.
They feel the e-mail was inappropriate as well.
"I'm angry, frustrated, appalled — all of the above," said Farhan Abdul Azeez, the association's president and a human biology senior.
Angered by the slavery and the genocide, I pray.
Azeez said the association met with university officials several times since the incident occurred and have been assured Wichman's views are not shared by the university. Provost Kim Wilcox told the group he personally admonished the professor in a letter, Azeez said, but he has not made the content of the letter public.
Wilcox did the dhimmi bend over but it wasn't enough.
The association's students think that response is not enough. In a statement to the press released Monday, the students called on the university to publicly reprimand Wichman and make diversity training mandatory for faculty and incoming students.
"An investigation immediately followed (the first meeting between administrators and students) to assure the integrity of the learning environment in general, or specifically, was not at risk," university spokesman Terry Denbow said.
Wilcox's letter to Wichman was not released because it is considered a private communication, Denbow said, but added he could speak to the content of the letter.
Operative word here - private.
"It indicated that never should anyone purport to speak for anyone other than themselves and their personal views," Denbow said. "The provost finds the communication in the e-mail to naturally lead to the conclusion the students reached."
Wichman's e-mail read that he and "many, many, many of my colleagues" considered the acts of Muslims offensive, alluding to things such as beheadings and the rape of Scandinavian women.
In an e-mail to The State News on Monday, Wichman wrote, "A communication that I thought was private was subsequently made public, much to my chagrin. That is troubling, and I regret this entire incident."
He declined further comment until a later time.
Dawud Walid, executive director of the Michigan branch of the CAIR - Council on American-Islamic Relations, said MSU needs to publicly denounce the statement.
CAIR, a nationwide Muslim advocacy group for civil rights, got involved with the situation when the MSU group contacted them because students were frustrated by the university's response.
"We are not calling for his dismissal," Walid said. "We want the university to clearly state this type of inciteful speech should not be condoned by any institution."
Dismissal??????????? WTF? Ward Churchill!
Walid said he met with university officials April 14 and still has not heard about further action they might take. If he does not hear anything by the end of the week, he said he will file an official complaint with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.
Harassment. Threats. Attrition.
When asked why the university did not make a statement before the group issued its press release, Denbow said the university did not want to "decry publicly what we considered a private communication."

The polemic against an entity so nefarious it’s mostly uppercased as “The Lobby” by Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer has received insufficient attention in America, the paper’s fans say. They should feel better now that the tract against the American Israel Public Affairs Committee has been echoed by anti-Semites at Turtle Bay.
It happened during a debate at a U.N. body so insignificant that it only received attention recently because its makeup turned it into a joke. Like the Human Rights Commission, which embarrassed even Secretary-General Annan when it elected Libya as its leader and voted America off, the Disarmament Commission last week welcomed Iran as a vice chairman.
Another vice chairman is Israel, which until lately was the only U.N. member state barred from joining any U.N. body. And so the stage was set for a confrontation between two armed foes charged with lowering armed tensions in the world.
The Israeli diplomat, Meir Yitzchaki, voiced the concerns, the Jewish state, whose officials are rarely heard in Turtle Bay’s inner sancta. The commission might want to start by addressing Iran’s nuclear ambitions, he said. Reza Najafi of Iran countered with a call for the disarmament of Israel, which President Ahmadinejad threatened violently to wipe “off the map.”
The predictable debate was mundane enough until Mr. Najafi pulled the secret weapon. According to Mr. Yitzchaki,his Iranian colleague said the Israeli argument is nothing but “Zionist propaganda of the Jewish lobby in the United States.” In a first for Turtle Bay, the Lobby was made to sound even more sinister than its Jerusalem alleged puppet masters.

Skinheads Mark Hitler’s Birthday by Stabbing Jew in Ukraine
(IHC News, 23 April 2006) Skinheads in the Ukranian city of Dnepropetrovsk decided to mark Hitler’s birthday by stabbing a Jew just after the Passover holiday last Thursday 20 April 2006.
At first, the skinheads tried to attack a group of yeshiva (seminary) students but after they escaped, they targeted twenty-year-old Haim Gorbov, a Ukranian citizen and visiting student from northern Israel.
The perpetrators first broke a bottle over Gorbov’s head but when they realized he was unhurt, stabbed him in the chest and fled.
“The rise in antisemitic activity demands immediate and determined preventative action,” said President of the Union of Jewish Communities in Russia, Lev Laviev.
“Whoever doesn't invest in fighting skinheads who are attacking minorities will have to deal with them when they increase the level of violence towards the whole of Ukrainian society,” Laviev said.
And they always do. History always stutters, the Jew is merely the canary in the coal mine.
A previous attack two months ago, was thwarted by security guards but the latest incident is another sign in the growing rate of antisemitic and racial incidents in the region that Jewish officials say are not being dealt with properly by authorities.

A New York rally by the Islamic Thinkers Society outside the Israeli consulate yesterday featured chants of "The mushroom cloud is on its way! The real holocaust is on its way!"
The demonstration by the Queens-based group was monitored by the Investigative Project on Terrorism whose members noted signs including "Islam will Dominate" and a picture with an Islamic flag flying over the White House. More here

Easter Terror Attack on Egyptian Resort Town
One day after Osama the vampire excreted his latest message three simultaneous explosions in the tourist bazaar area of the Egyptian Sinai resort town of Dahab on Monday - part of a five-day spring holiday in Egypt. One of the bombs targeting a hotel there, one exploding in a large market and the third on a bridge.
More than 90 people reported killed or injured in 3 explosions in town of Dahab, an Egyptian Interior Ministry official told CNN. Vital Perspective is live blogging here.
There have been a string of attacks in Egypt's Sinai peninsula over 18 months. They included al-Qaeda-style bombings in the Egyptian resorts of Taba and Ras Shitan in October 2004, killing 34 people, and in Sharm el-Sheik in July 2005, killing 63.
Ha'aretz reports at least 22 dead, 150 injured. Reuters confirms.
UPDATE 4/24 @ 3:10pm: Reuters reports that Egyptian rescue officials now put the death toll at 30. The director of rescue services in South Sinai province put the number of wounded up to 160.

IRAN: "Israel is a Fake Regime"
Iran said their Nuclear program is irreversible' and that the US will be humiliated if it attacks. In other unsettling (/tag) developments, the Iraqi President is anxious of Iranian troops massing on its border.
Ahmadinejad reportedly has met in Syria with one of the world's most wanted terrorists, Imad Mugniyeh. The Lebanese commander of Hezbollah's overseas operations is plotting Iran's retaliation should U.S. President George Bush order a strike on Iranian nuclear sites.
Mugniyeh is reported to have traveled with Ahmadinejad in January to Damascus, where the Iranian president met leaders of Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Hamas, the newspaper said. Story here

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) The Iranian president has long campaigned against Israel, saying in October that the Jewish state should be "wiped off the map." He has said Europe should find a home for Israelis, who should not live on Palestinian land.

France: "The Mosques of Roissy"
I have been trying, with the inestimable help of Atlas readers, to get the dirt on this new book by Philippe de Villiers, entitled The Mosques of Roissy ("Les mosquées de Roissy"),on the dangerous conditions at Charles De Gaulle airport (nicknamed Roissy) due to the infiltration of radical Islamic extremists. The influence of radical Islamist groups is a growing threat to French business and their airports too. In a report commissioned by several retail and courier companies, Eric Denece - director of the French Center for Research and Intelligence - said that the Islamists' strategy is to "take control of Muslims within the workforce" and then "challenge the rules in order to impose Islamic values." On April 21, 2006 a pilot testifies to the decline/degradation of the climate at Charles De Gaulle airport since the attacks of September 11. Her testimony is from those which, delivered at the
end of a long silence. Employed for ten years by the subsidiary company of Air Britair France, pilot Veronique Topall decided today to tell Le Monde how, in the months which followed the attacks of September 11, 2001, a number of runway employees claiming ties to radical Islam deliberately violated safety requirements "on the platform of the airport Roissy 2." Until June 2002 when, on an parked airplane, she suddenly discovered "a blade cutter of 15 cm slipped into a pile of newspapers".
Frightened by the "aggressiveness" of certain employees– her vehicle was defaced/vandalized on several occasions in the car parks of the airport - and worried about her own safety, Veronique Topall lodged a complaint with the police force in October 2002. "I was frightened when parking my car -- these employees refused to look at me", she explained. At the same time, a person in charge of security with Air France raised, in an internal email: "This business is serious and worrying."
The security services of Britair spoke to the company Europe Handling, then in charge of ground personnel, to ask for the firing of some of the some troublemakers. Due to the lack of a conclusive response they (Britair security services) decided to temporarily transfer commander Topall to Orly airport.. “For fourteen months, I then was forced to modify my personal organization and to accept a reduction of salary - until the day when I was finally reinstated in Roissy ", explains the commander. France: 50 Islamists Work Handling Baggage In Airport
Sadly this news is not on the online edition, but today's UK Daily Telegraph has an interesting story on its print edition, page 16. Charles de Gaulle is one of Paris's three main airports, and is the newest. In a book to be published next week by Philippe de Villiers, entitled The Mosques of Roissy, the author states that the French frontier police have identified 50 baggage-handlers who hold extremist Islamic views.
This week, to allay fears, Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy visited the airport (nicknamed "Roissy") to examine security arrangements. He said that individuals who were "more or less suspect" numbered only 122 out of a total of 83,000 staff who carry security badges. He stated that there were moves to remove 60% of their security clearance.
Sarkozy further stated that the findings of the security services had already been acted upon.
50 extremists? 122 radicals, who are going to have only some of their security privileges forfeited? Following the events of 9/11, and also Paris' bombing attacks by the Groupe Islam Armee, as well as the current Paris trial of 27 Islamists who stated they intended to attack, among other targets, a major French airport, Sarkozy's reassurances sound hollow.
122 people working at Charles de Gaulle airport should be fired or reassigned to duties which have nothing to do with the airport.

New Bin Laden Tape Says This Is A Crusader-Zionist War
Al-Jazeera, which is based in Qatar, said the new tape is from bin Laden. [...] analysts said the voice sounds like bin Laden’s.

The speaker on the tape says “the opposition to the Hamas government is proof of the crusade against Muslims.
The speaker repeats his description of a “crusade” against Muslims, pointing to activities in other areas such as Chechnya, Somalia and Sudan, where bin Laden lived in the mid-’90s before being expelled by the Sudanese government.
Bin Laden and other al Qaeda figures use the term “crusaders” to refer to Christians.
He also slammed the Darfur conflict and the international isolation of the Hamas-led Palestinian government as proof of a "war by crusaders and Zionists against Islam." This savage speaks to the humanitarian effort to save the lives in Darfur as a "war against Islam" and "steal the oil?" Savage! China has been "stealing the oil" from Sudanese people as the oil-hungry Chinese fund the Sudan junta. But the call on Muslim fighters to go to Sudan to wage war against "crusader thieves," speaks volumes to the evil of the enemy. In the message broadcast Sunday, bin Laden also called for a global Muslim boycott of American goods similar to the recent boycott of Danish products after the publication there of caricatures of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad. Bin Laden citing the cartoon jihad is evidence that those prefabricated riots across the Muslim world were a deliberate incitment to violence and another front on the Islamists war on the West. And the Democrats calling for Bin Laden's capture as though that puts an end to the latest violent battle in the centuries long war is idiotic. And they are taking the American people for morons.

Jane Harman was on Fox News Sunday this morning and the first topic was the bin Laden tape. Her response was nonsensical (we haven't caught bin Laden because we are bogged down in Iraq) and I decided to parse it (especially because it continues to be used and repeated by Democrats on a regular basis.)
But even that is not the most risible part of the talking point. Most accounts suggest that bin Laden has been hiding either in Pakistan or in Iran. Someone should remind the Democrats that these are both sovereign nations. Are the Democrats really suggesting that we should send troops into Pakistan and/or Iran en masse, uninvited? Are the Democrats ready to declare war on Iran and Pakistan? I briefly comment on the McCarthy firing, as well, since Juan Williams reliably quotes the Dems talking points each Sunday:
I would also ask of the Democrats: Do they really believe that any person who has access to Top Secret, Classified information, should be free to surreptitiously leak such material to friendly reporters when they disagree with a policy? This was Juan Williams position this morning. It is hard to imagine any responsible Democrat agreeing, but it is not as inconceivable as I might have once thought. They should remember that one day they will again inhabit the White House and this kind of legitimization of what once was unthinkable, has a habit of coming back to bite you in unpredictable ways. For those with short memories, I would remind you of the damage a Special Prosecutor, along with sexual harassment laws that were overtly weighted toward the interests of the accusers, did to the Presidency of William Clinton.
